When I started I bought a 1991 ford with it's 1991 tanker body on it, I was the 3rd owner and the truck came from new jersey. The 2nd owner I Know used salt. The frame of the truck rusted in two in 2001 and I move it to another truck. I still use it as a spare today. My septic pump truck tank is at least 32 year old and I pumped 4 tank with it yesterday.

There is some kind of device that can test the thickness of the tank but I don't know it name.

That 32 year old tank got a rust hole last spring, I welded a patch on it and order an new one, just finished changing it out over the weekend. That old tank was lined with roofing tar on the inside, so is my new one now. I plan to recoat it once a year from now on using either more roofing tars or asphalt sealant. Maybe I can get another 30 years out of this one.

I have a 5 year old aluminum tank that looks like has some severe corrosion issues. Just investigating the problem and have no answers yet.

all of my aluminum camlock fitting have rotted of my tank, and i went to plastic ones. I think it is cause by the ph of the waste, and salt water brime. But i'm luck may tank is stainless steel. I like the idea of aluminum being light, but I have seen that they only come with a 5-10 year waranty. Mild steel is the same way but seem to last much longer.(up to 30 years)

KP i think you nailed it on the head - i like the idea of aluminum but feel it just won't hold up

I have that exact same unit and have had cracks in the fresh water tank repaired at least 10 times. It is leaking again. Stainless is brittle and the square water tank is prone to cracking. Best did not back up the product.

I have the small best slide in and as I've posted elsewhere on the board, it has been a great tank. I've had zero problems with it. We've bounced it around on washboard gravel roads and off road quite a bit too.
