Ok well a few months ago i bought a 2004 4300 with a DT466e and a 2000 Gallon Aluminum Tank. It had 98k and now it has 115k, Id say this truck is a lemon. Though we properly maintain it it has had several serious problems...

The air brakes on one of the rear wheels locked up
the air brakes are leaky
the power steering hose burst
The climate control system is on the fritz
...and a little pesky problem with having THE WHOLE ENGINE REBUILT!!!!
Apparently the liner on #6 burst and water leaked into the pan, scared the 6 and forced us to pay 8k for a rebuild. All at 115k miles!

This isnt a fluke with my engine, apparently all dt466's after 2002 have the same liner, and fall normally between 125k and 200k, and when they burst, they will need 8-12k for a rebuild. Also some of them didnt have the cab put on correctly, so it falls off!

This isnt the only problem IH has had with reliablity lately, the 6.0 IH diesels in ford trucks only lasted like 4 years, now they are being replaced with 6.4L. Ford is sueing IH because of the warrenty problems that ford has had to pay to fix.

"The 6.0 L VT365 replaced the 7.3 L T444E, also built by International in Indianapolis, but has not been as successful. A high number of warranty claims (US$50,000,000 in two years) caused Ford to discontinue their contract with International Truck and Engine to build a Diesel V6 and paying US$70,000,000 to International Truck and Engine as compensation for ending the contract. Ford considered International Truck and Engine rival, Cummins, before deciding to design this new Diesel V6, now known as the DT17, in-house."

We are having tons of problems out of ours as well.. Wondered if i was the only one having trouble.. Bought a 08 navistar new... Been in the motor three times.. Replaced injectors... Front end jumps up and down... Air don't work... Working it today and noticed it's droping oil on this coustomers drive...

And the blame thing only has 21k miles... Can't keep it out of the shop long enough to work it.. Oh yea forgot.. Radio don't work good either.. Bought an internatonal thinking it'd pay off vs. Other brands.... Wrong....

I've had the same issues with my 03/04 Internationals too. My two 06's (one with the DT 466 the other with a Cummins) have been pretty good trucks. I have a '99 with the 466 and it's been great.

the dt466 as well as the ford navastar engines have a well known problem with cavitation. the newer coolants were supposed to help stop this but if they are mixed with other coolants or if the additive package is not tested and brought back up to spec cavitation will still occur.

as far as the other problems i don't know
