Well we have 2 older trucks with watercooled masports never hada problem. We have 2 newer trucks is Challengers and i have to say i like the masports better cuz they are watercooled. The challengers will over heat (air cooled ones) on long deep pulls. Thats really the only advice i can offer on the pumps.

When we looked at building our new truck I wanted a 400 cfm water cooled pump. When we went to the builder and told him we were pumping septic tanks at this time and so they told us we needed nothing more than a Masport 350 cfm aircooled. The pump works just fine but I personally would have preferred the water cooled. I would like to think that the builder knows best but they also put a 2,500 gal progress tank on a single axle INTL. which we tagged at 33,000 and when the tank is FULL we were well over 37,000. Know your builder inside out and continue to get as much feed back as possible. Go to the pumper show and pick every brain that will talk to you.

Very true!

As a manufacturer of both Steel and aluminum tanks.
I have said over and over that aluminum is over exaggerated on load weights.
We have scaled the same 2500 aluminum at or around 35,500 - 36,000.

Don't get me wrong, we like aluminum and do a great job.

Found out more info on the pumps i used to run. The masport was 400cfm water cooled and the challenger 506. The challenger is alittle bit stronger but it has its problems. Like i said it over heats alot and we have to replace the veins on the pump cuz of it. (still under warr.) Challenger does make a water cool version of this pump. After having 1 air cooled pump I would never buy another one. Water cool in my eyes is the only way to go. That masport is around 10years old and still pumps good and NEVER over heats we have had little problems with it. If i ever get my own truck i would go with a watercooled masport.
