View Full Version : Geauga, OH septic inspection Reign of Terror

Folks,

I'm looking for info to figure out the pickle I'm in...

Geauga County, OH recently instituted regulations requiring all septic tank systems to have a water flow sample test taken prior to selling a property. Among other things, the inspection tests for coliform bacteria. It must be less than 5000 ppm I believe.

My system is an early 60s, one tank, 1000g system. It is in good shape according to the pumper, there are never odors, or evidence of 'bleed out'.

However - depending on who you talk to, I have heard that only 2% to 24% of these systems will pass the test....

Before I pay for a new system (10K to 30k?), or a sample well installation ($$$) to do the test that costs $400, I was wondering:

A) Why do these systems fail? What is the nature of the test that makes it so that these systems fail??? Is the test impossible to pass without some modern, 'fancy' aeration system?

B) Are there cheaper alternatives that will help me pass this test? What about this thing called aero-flow that I found on the web?

Thanks in advance,
-N
