How much more fuel does the typical 3600gal 10wheel pumper use per mile compared to a 2500gal 6wheel? I know the load makes all the difference. So please compare them either both full or both empty, either both steel or both alum. Thanks.

You would also have to consider comparable engines and transmissions. Engine horsepower and gear ratios play a large part in fuel consumption. The trick is to size the engine and transmission to most efficiently carry the load and weight you most often maintain - finding that "sweet spot". The larger 10 wheel truck might benefit from more hp and/or a different gear ratio to actually get better fuel economy. The 6 wheel truck might be able to use a smaller engine and gear ratio to burn less fuel.

If any of the truck guys are online, they have far more knowledge on mating engines and transmissions to tank sizes than I do.
