Does anyone know of any good studies done on the liquid waste industry that talk about growth rates, current size, and projected growth?

Your best way to get a business plan put together. Many businesses in this Industry have so many different services they offer in addition to servicing systems. It is difficult to get an average to compair against.
Your growth is based on who sees you, your reputation, your appearence, your advertising and the services you offer. Do all the good things and necessary things, you'll see good growth. It generally takes a good 3 years in business before you even break even, so averages say.
Check with a Small Business Develpoment Center. They have work books to lead you in the right direction and good advice.
Come to the Pumper Convention. The classes are great along with all the experienced folks you'll meet. All kinds of knowledge there.

If you don't find a study you can start with your own starting with the ares census statistics. Explore the site (US Census bureau), when you are in a particular population and you will find that they provide you with # of households in each village, town, county, state or country. This site includes previouse years of statistics.

I took the number of households and subtracted the villages I knew had sewer service and came to the estimated localized septic systems in my area.

Then how many pumpers are in the area?

I'm guessing the average tank gets pumped 5-8years (being conservative).

Then do the math.

my customers pump their tank at least every 3 years, and I have many annual customers-the older systems in MA. have been performing much better than some of the new systems now approved by the same state that approves gluing bridges together
