Whats the best material for making a solid driveway out of a slimey clay mess and can it be done this time of year?

I know there is a process for mixing large amounts of lime into the clay to create a solid base, but I know it's a labor intensive process that requires a large tiller attachment on a skidsteer. It would also be nearly impossible this time of year with the frost still in the ground.

The only other alternative I've heard of is a solid 4-6 inch rock base with larger (2"-3") stone laid over a geo-textile fabric.
